Meet Our New Sales Consultant, Matt Duong

We wanted to take some time to introduce Matt Duong, who just took on a new role in sales for Spectrum Sign Systems.  He's been with Spectrum since 2014 and has moved his way up within the the company. Having started from out of the industry, he began by helping out in the back shop. But he continued to learn the industry and challenged himself to further refine his skill sets which has brought him to where he is today.

Q: Hi, Matt, tell us a little bit about yourself.

A: I currently live in Harris, MN with my wife, Branda, and two kids, Liem and Colson. We also have two cats, Sahara and Ashlynn, and one dog, Mason.

FamilyQ: What do you like to do in your free time?

A: I am an avid outdoorsman and love hunting, fishing, hiking, and boating. I also play competitive volleyball and amateur baseball. When I am not enjoying time outside, I love cooking/grilling and spending quality time with my family!

Q: How long have you been working with Spectrum Sign Systems?

A: I started working for Spectrum on January 6th, 2014, so it has been 8 years now.

Q: What was your role when you first started?

A: I first started doing shop work, assembly, and other miscellaneous tasks. Shortly after on-boarding, I began working into a hybrid installation role, so I split my time in the field and in the shop. I also completed union training, UL certification, 3M graphics training, as well as trainings in electronic message centers, OSHA, and crane operations. In August of 2017 I moved into a Project Manager position.

Q: Why did you make the switch from an Installer to Project Manager?

A: I wanted to challenge myself in my professional and personal growth. I was able to develop my skills in a variety of areas including Microsoft Office, estimating, operations, management, scheduling, coordination, and customer service.

Q: I understand that you are currently in a sales role now. When did you make that switch?

A: I officially moved into sales in July of 2021. Again, I wanted to continue to challenge myself and advance my professional career for both myself and to be able to provide for my family.

Q: How do you bring your knowledge from your previous roles into your new one?

A: My previous roles over the last 8 years with the Spectrum team have been one of my greatest assets already as a sales consultant. I have a thorough understanding of how things need to happen and what is truly possible in making a customer’s vision into a reality that all parties can be proud of and enjoy. Though it isn’t always a fun conversation to have, my experience also allows me to be more thoughtful in instances where a timeline is unachievable, or a certain fabrication method may not be the best option, and I can address these items on the front end. Having a background and knowledge of production methods, fabrication timelines and processes, installation requirements, and taking projects from start to finish has and will continue to be a great benefit to both myself, my teammates at Spectrum and most importantly our customers!

Thanks for taking the time to meet, Matt. We wish you continued success in your new role.
