The National Sports Center
The National Sports Center (NSC) is the largest amateur sports facility in the world with over 100 unique programs on 600 acres just north of the Twin Cities.
Spectrum Sign Systems has been working with the National Sports Center for several years.
National Sports Center’s Goals
The NSC had two main goals. They wanted a wayfinding sign package to direct athletes and visitors to their correct location, and they wanted a new sign to showcase their premier Super Rink ice complex.
Wayfinding issues
With a campus of this size including 45+ fields and multiple facilities, visitors and athletes were having a difficult time navigating their way around the grounds.
To alleviate stress and confusion, Spectrum Signs was brought in to evaluate the existing signage and look for improvements to wayfinding.
Site survey
We met onsite with their facilities and marketing team to learn what the main destination points were in the complex. After destinations were identified, we drove the complex to understand traffic flow and find all the decision making points where visitors had to choose a direction. This helped us determine where signs should be placed as well as what information needed to be on each sign.
With this knowledge, we created a wayfinding system that increased the number of directional signs and created field identification signs to help visitors find the correct field.
Spectrum Signs worked very closely with the National Sports Center to create a new wayfinding system that allows athletes and visitors to efficiently navigate the complex.
Super Rink needed to be showcased
The National Sports Center also boasts the world’s largest ice rink with over eight sheets of ice. To showcase this impressive arena, they had Spectrum Signs design a massive 41.5 ft wide x 5.6 ft high lighted LED sign.
This new lighted sign landmarked the complex and made it easily identifiable in the dark.
