Grand Casino Hinckley

With dining trends changing from buffets to themed dining experiences, Grand Casino Hinckley decided it was time for a major remodel of the dining area.

They wanted to offer their patrons a variety of themed dining experiences from grab-n-go, to themed restaurants and even a convenience store.

Each dining experience had its own theme and had decor to match. Grand Casino Hinckley wanted signs that complimented the decor  and attracted customers. They wanted each sign to have a different look and chose from a variety of lighting options to give each a unique look.  Lighting options include halo illuminated, face illuminated, down lit and some had no lighting.

Also included in the project were signs for the bowling alley and cashier areas.

Grand Casino Hinckley hired Spectrum Sign Systems to handle the signage for this fun project. We met with their national design team to understand their goals and vision.

They wanted each area to have a unique look. After meeting with their design team, Spectrum went to work designing signs that were creative and would match each themed dining destination.

 Complexity of Project

The project consisted of gutting the entire food area and creating individual spaces for the dining experiences. PCL construction was in charge of  the renovation.

Since there weren’t finished spaces to survey, we had to work off of detailed plans and had to coordinate with PCL to make sure we were designing signs that would work in the spaces.

Timing was key

It was important to Grand Casino Hinckley to minimize the disruption to their guests. Having worked on projects like this, we understood the importance of coordinating with the construction team.

Our project management team worked closely with PCL to coordinate timelines so that we could start working in an area as soon as they were finished. This coordination helped minimize disruption.

Dining Experiences

  • Stories Diner - Designed to mimic the classic neon diner sign, this 12 foot sign was created using LED face illuminated lighting to give that white neon look.
  • Well Dressed - The sign for Well Dressed was designed with an urban feel. It consisted of a wood frame suspended with metal tubing. The sign had a black chalkboard background and used brushed aluminum letters to stand out.
  • Switches - Is a birghtly colored tomato red and teal color sign. Each letter is outlined in tomato red with the center of each letter being translucent tomato red. A teal arrow was attached to the top of the “i” pointing upward and another teal arrow was attached to the bottom of the “t” pointing downward. The entire sign was For Switches, the LED face illuminated sign was made of individual letters that were outlined in a tomato red color with the interior of the letter being a translucent version of the tomato red. Teal green arrows were added to the top of the “i” and the bottom of the “t.” The entire sign was mounted on a glass background.
  • Twisted Noodle - was an intricate 11 foot sign using two different fonts and colors for each portion of the sign. The “Twisted” part of the sign used a funky font in black lettering. The “Noodle” part of the sign used a cursive font in green lettering. The background of the sign was a wood fascia look. The sign was halo-illuminated to give it an extra pop.
  • Grand Traditions - The 14 foot sign was designed with matte black reverse channel letters and a border to match. This was mounted on a glossy white background.
  • Sweet Spot - This sweets shop needed an eye-catching design. Using neon pink and cursive letters, we created a sign that pops.
  • Board & Bowl - This black letterset features a circular ampersand between the two words. This sign is LED illuminated with both face and halo lights.
  • Creare - This complex sign had a lot going on. To create the 3D effect, the sign was designed using 3 inch deep cursive channel letters that were covered with white acrylic faces. The sides/returns of the letter were made out of black aluminum to create a two color look to the letters. Green bars were added both above and below the word to frame it. It was mounted onto an interior glass wall that was a bright red color. Care had to be taken while mounting the sign onto the glass wall.
  • Asada - This 8 foot sign was the only vertical sign of the bunch. 2 inch deep reverse channel letters were finished in white and mounted onto an aluminum background painted in nuance black. The letters were LED halo illuminated to give them a glowing look.
  • Twisted Noodle - Each word in the 11 foot Twisted Noodle sign consisted of a different font and color. The fun sign was LED halo illuminated and had a wood fascia background.
  • Grand Provisions - was an intricate sign. The Grand portion of the sign was crafted using a cursive font and was illuminated with white colors. The Provisions portion of the sign was done in a different font using capital letters and illuminated with a bright green color. In between the two signs, were a fork and knife criss crossed and lit up in a translucent silver and black.  The entire sign was trimmed with a wood grain background.
  • Provisions To-Go - played off of the Grand Provisions sign. The Provisions portion of the sign used capital letters and was illuminated with a bright green color. The To-Go portion was crafted using a cursive font and white illumination. It was divided in two by a fork and knife criss crossed in the middle. The fork and knife were lit up with a silver face and black sides. The entire sign was trimmed with a wood grain background.
  • Bowling alley - We designed signs with exposed bulbs within the letters to give it a retro look.
