LED Face Illuminated Letters - Residential - Fieldhouse Dinkytown 1100

The Fieldhouse is a brand new, twelve story apartment building located in Dinkytown, near the University of Minnesota campus. While working with the builder on the ADA related code signage for the building, Spectrum was put in touch with the ownership group to provide an exterior sign package as well. Ownership was working with an out-of-state sign company and having issues with the company’s unfamiliarity with Minnesota sign code. We were provided with exterior renderings of what they liked, and our in-house code expert got to work on what would be allowed per the city’s code requirements.

After our research, our design team put together concept options for the interior and exterior and set up a meeting with the ownership group to go over our ideas. In this meeting we narrowed down what they liked and what they did not, focusing on color palettes, material choices, sizing, and font options. By the time we were done, everyone felt comfortable with the direction we were headed and we proceeded to draw and price the entire package.

Interior Signage

For the interior signage we provided one layer ADA plaques finished in standard material colors to help keep the cost down. Each sign has a printed watermark of the building brand pattern. Each one of the unit IDs also included a raised orange logo in the upper left-hand corner. Along with all the standard ADA signage, we also provided custom pool signage, directional signs, clearance bars, and handicap parking signs.

Exterior Signage

The exterior package consisted of four LED face Illuminated signs. On the East elevation we fabricated and installed a remote mount letterset with perforated black vinyl on the street facing side of an exterior lounge wall. Because this wall was visible on the backside, custom hatches were created to house all the electrical components to keep them out of sight. Also on the East elevation, we installed a custom logo cabinet with ½” thick white acrylic push through letters on the entrance canopy. On the opposite side of the building, we provided a LED Face illuminated raceway mount channel letter set that mounted to a two-tier entrance canopy. On the South elevation we installed a six-foot diameter custom logo cabinet with ½” thick white acrylic push through letters on the twelfth floor of the building. The size and height of this sign posed some challenges, but our professional team of expert installers handled it without a problem.

Through collaboration with ownership and the building contractor, we were able to complete the project on time and within budget. Everyone involved was thrilled with the outcome, and the signage inside and out provides functional as well as aesthetic appeal.
